Background:
As a young filly, Melody felt left out from her parents because she could play a single instrument if she tried. One day as she sat down and listened to her parents play, she had the erg to sing along to their music, but in a very different way. When she sung, it was loud and strong, surprising her parents (mostly Octavia). Later, after hearing the praises she got from her parents, she felt so happy and proud, earning her Cutie Mark that day. 
Melody likes to think of her self as a "Canterlotian with a twist". 
As an adult, she would join up with her parents to sing at their, more wild, concerts.

 Melody always wanted to learn the Violin
 Melody was extremely popular at her school 
 Melody had a wild streak in her teens, getting her ears pierced and using black eye shadow
 Even though she's a Unicorn, her magic is very weak and even as an adult it can barely lift a Microphone
